Bridal Showers/Bachelorette Parties/Hen Nights are one of those days in a woman’s life that should be special, full of love and laughter. It is an especially important day, as it is the last day a woman spends with her female friends as an umarried woman.
Usually, our overly modest African traditions and rather reserved Christian ways haven’t paved way for much fun during bridal showers. We end up having rigid, and somewhat-boring afternoons or nights. Here are a few ways you can spice up the next bridal shower 🙂
- Color Scheme and Dress Code
Color schemes help bring out some fun uniformity. For the dress code, decide on a color that will flatter ALL your skin tones. We are African, and honestly, some colors make us look hedious, while others make us look like a bunch of sad helpless people. Don’t limit yourselves to the norm of dresses – explore with themed dress codes, too.
Having a room or garden alive with color and decoration has a very happy feel to it. Decorate bridal showers with lively colors, preferably colors that will form a beautiful contrast to your dress code.
A theme will always make it easier to get dress codes, color schemes and decor. It also brings excitement and uniqueness. Themes to try out include; DIY, tea parties, cookouts, beauty showers (get yourselves dolled up in a spa or salon), color-themed showers, barbecue, fancy, desserts, etc. (Look out for our post on Bridal Shower Themes)
4. Magic Jars
Magic Jars will be one of the best gifts you can give to the bride-to-be, as well as a very fun exercise to include along the games. All you need is a jar for each category, and strips of paper. Get a jar for, eg, ideas for date night, advice box, recipe ideas, etc, and have the guests write up some ideas for the bride-to-be.
Location is one of the most trivial points of success or failure for any event. You need a place that can allow for a lively atmosphere, and one that is comfortable for both the guests and the bride-to-be.
Don’t be rigid when it comes to games. Have a variety of games; simple ice-breaking games, competitions, trivias, sexy games, etc. Don’t be boring, or rigid- this isn’t Primary School
7. Persons of Honor
The people who will be speaking at the party- moderator, adviser, etc should be fun and lively people, who can help achieve a party that doesn’t turn out to be classroom-fever or parent-teacher-pupil talks. Make her last day as an unmarried woman fun, please.
Save the plates and cups for the wedding gifts, please. This is a chance to appeal to her feminine side. The desirable-woman-with-all-she-needs-to-please-her-man chance. Equip her with that. Lingerie, scented oils, scented candles, sexy-gift hampers, couple’s spa treatment vouchers, etc. Think outside the box.
